Actually unlocked!

The good:Works on Freedom mobile in Canada. Seems like a totally new device. Google makes it super easy to switch devices, just follow the instructions on the CAT S22 to use the Google app on the previous device to "set up my device", and the old phone and the CAT S22 will sync up magically. There are pogo charging pins on the back, but while there are no OEM charging adapters, you can apparently 3D print existing open source designs and buy some parts to make your own pogo chargers. Overall, I really like the device and will keep using it, and I'm excited about building charging cradles for it for home and car. I like the fact most apps work. Hotspot works well. Youtube music works well. Google maps works except it doesn't recenter to show locations of search results. Only a few actual issues are the following:Cons: 1. Wifi calling doesn't really work if you're not a t-mobile customer, and thus can't set it up. As a non t-mobile customer, I can toggle the wifi calling shortcut widget in the drop down menu (above the brightness bar), but it frequently deactivate, stays unactivated, or drop your calls all together. I might try to visit the US just to connect to the t-mobile network and try to fix this issue.2. The low vertical resolution results in a parking app not working because I can't scroll down to press a button. The same issue occurs in a couple different apps. I barely got my banking app to authenticate because there were buttons almost hidden below the screen. Same issue with my fitness app. In other words, some apps are not optimized for the low resolution screen, and you may encounter issues.3. Uber barely works. It's slow, and sometimes closes on its own. Perhaps is requires too much ram? But most of the time, I can get it to work.4. Google messages android go version does not have web/chrome/desktop syncing.5. No nfc is inconvenient because I can't charge my transit card on the go, nor do wireless charging, but his is a minor inconvenience.

This phone is exactly what I need. It's a flip phone with a tiny screen, but it can run Google Maps and Spotify, the only smartphone features I really want in my life right now. It's a step towards having a completely dumb phone, and it works well. The only reason it's not 4 or five stars is that the phone call mic does not work at all. I always have to make my calls using speakerphone.

Not Unlocked as Advertised

The device is factory locked. T-Mobile advised me that the device is not locked to them. The permanent unlock will not work in settings as the CAT S22 Flip trying to contact the T-mobile servers.This minor inconvenience is made worse because the manufacturer of the phone have gone bankrupt. Do A search for "bullitt-say-goodbye-to-rugged-cat-phones".THe device itself is fairly easy to use inspite of a small screen. Dialpad buttons are large enough for gloved use.
